Toukomst: improving life, working and living in Groningen

Toukomst invested 100 million euros to improve life, living and working in Groningen. That’s why we facilitated 150 sessions in a really short time. Those led to 44 projects.

Toukomst is an initiative of National Programme Groningen. For a more liveable Groningen, they made 100 million euros available in 2020. Meant for collecting and developing ideas. And who better to do that than Groningers themselves?

The problem

How can living, living and working in Groningen be improved in 2040?

The solution

Of course, a question is not easy to answer. Toukomst’s website christened it six steps. Brain Fuel was involved in the first two: generating as well as selecting ideas. In a world struck by corona, we facilitated 150 short sessions with 15 facilitators that eventually led to no fewer than 44 projects.

These bore fruit: in 2021, Groningen’s Provincial Council gave the green light to nine projects. Among them: every village its own food garden, (farm) yards as stepping stones in nature or museums that tell the earthquake history of Groningen.
